
Hartford City, IN – The Crossroads League is pleased to announce the 2012-13 Men's Basketball All-Crossroads League selections following the completion of a successful regular season. Student-athletes are named to All-Crossroads League teams following a vote by league head coaches at the end of regular season play. The top players in the Crossroads League are recognized as First, Second, and Third Team All-Crossroads League. A All-Defensive team recognizes the top defensive players, and All-Newcomer selections represent excellence by players in their first year of Crossroads League play. This year's honorees are led by Patrick Hopkins, of Indiana Wesleyan, the 2012-13 Crossroads League Player of the Year.
Patrick Hopkins, of Indiana Wesleyan, was voted Crossroads League Player of the Year after an outstanding 2012-13 season. The senior forward currently holds several statistical rankings in NAIA DII men's basketball, ranking #1 in defensive rebounds per game (7.8), and 2nd in both total rebounds (311) and rebounds per game (10.367). In league play Hopkins tallied 330 points, an 18.33 per game average, and 211 rebounds, averaging 11.72 boards per Crossroads League contest. The Wildcats are currently ranked #6 in the NAIA top 25, and enter Crossroads League tournament play as the #1 seed after winning the 2012-13 Crossroads League Regular Season Championship with a 14-4 record.
Following his strong senior season for the Lancers of Grace College, Bruce Grimm Jr. is the 2012-13 Crossroads League Defensive Player of the Year. Grimm led the lancers in points, assists and steals for the season, and helped the Lancers to a 2nd place finish in league standings with a 13-5 record. The 6'2 guard from Rochester, IN tallied 33 steals in league play and posted 49 defensive rebounds.
In his first season of competition in the Crossroads League Jason Dawson has been named the 2012-13 Newcomer of the Year. Dawson Led the Cougars of Mount Vernon in Points, rebounds, and steals during the 2012-13 season. Dawson totaled 342 points in league play this season, scoring a season high 40 against Huntington in their first league meeting.
After only 8 seasons as head coach at Indiana Wesleyan Greg Tonagel has led the Wildcats to an impressive 5th straight Regular Season Championship, and has also been recognized by his peers as the 2012-13 Crossroads League Coach of the Year. Tonagel and the Wildcats posted a 14-4 league record, and went 25-5 overall in regular season competitions for 2012-13. Ranked 6th in the latest NAIA top 25 poll the wildcats will represent the Crossroads League at the NAIA National Championships after claiming an automatic bid as regular season champions. Tonagel is currently the winningest coach in Indiana Wesleyan's program history and has led the wildcats to NAIA tournament appearances the past 4 seasons.
