Crossroads League Athletes of the Week Page

AVON, Ohio – The Crossroads League announced its athletes of the week on Tuesday, recognizing the top athletes from the week of August 28 through September 3. In order to be considered for the award, a student-athlete must be nominated by their institution's Sports Information Director.

 

Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
Johan Escalante, Goshen

Escalante posted a pair of shutouts in goal for Goshen to extend a personal shutout streak to 206 minutes. Escalante picked up 10 saves and helped GC to wins over Siena Heights and Roosevelt.

 

Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week
Stuart Aeschliman, Goshen

Aeschliman scored one goal and assisted Goshen's other in a 2-0 win over Siena Heights, before adding another goal in a 3-0 defeat of Roosevelt to close the week with five points in the two wins.

 

Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
Abby Schue, Grace

Schue made Grace's lone goal stand in the Lancers' 1-0 upset of No. 21 Kansas Wesleyan. The senior keeper notched five saves in goal to preserve the shutout victory.

 

Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week
Bailey Zehr, Taylor

Zehr fueled the attack for No. 22 Taylor in victories over Roosevelt and Campbellsville. The junior midfielder racked up three goals and three assists for a total of nine points in the two victories.

 

Men's Tennis Player of the Week
Nick Romano, Spring Arbor

Romano did not drop a set en route to a 4-0 week for Spring Arbor at his No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles slot, helping the Cougars to league wins over Mount Vernon Nazarene and Saint Francis.

 

Women's Tennis Player of the Week
Lizzie Bauss, Indiana Wesleyan

Bauss helped Indiana Wesleyan to CL victories over Saint Francis and Marian with four wins. Bauss was 2-0 at No. 1 doubles and won a match at No. 1 and No. 2 singles for the Wildcats.

 

Volleyball Attacker of the Week
Lauren Gross, Indiana Wesleyan

Gross hit .494 to highlight No. 21 Indiana Wesleyan's 5-0 week that included a win over No. 22 Lourdes and two other programs receiving votes in the NAIA Top-25 Poll. Gross averaged 2.81 kills and 1.19 blocks per set, as IWU dropped only one set over the five contests.

 

Volleyball Defender of the Week
Ashley Gingerich, Mount Vernon Nazarene

Gingerich continued her strong play from the MVNU back row, racking up 100 digs to help the Cougars to a 5-0 clip on the week. Gingerich had 26 digs against Bethel and followed up with a 30-dig showing against Point Park to end the week with 5.26 digs per set.

 

Volleyball Setter of the Week
Katelyn Dufur, Mount Vernon Nazarene

Dufur stuffed the box score all week to help Mount Vernon Nazarene win each of its five matches. The junior setter posted three double-doubles and a pair of triple-doubles, closing the week with 118 assists, 56 digs, 35 kills, six blocks, five aces and a .329 attack percentage.
