HUNTINGTON, IN-Huntington University senior Gonzalo Vivas from Lima, Peru won the men's singles championship at the 2009 ITA Midwest Regional Championships over the weekend in Cedarville, Ohio. He won five consecutive matches over the three day tournament to bring home the singles' crown. 

In the finals he defeated eighth seed Jose Villavisencio from Indiana Institute of Technology in three sets, 7-5, 6-7 (7-4), 13-11. Both players are from Lima, Peru and trained together at the same tennis facility in Peru.

Vivas will compete in the ITA National Small College Championships at the Copeland-Cox Tennis Center in Mobile, Alabama.  The singles championship will bring together the best eight players in small college tennis from around the United States. The tournament will be held October 15-18.
