[Crossroads League] Goshen's Tim Demant Named Crossroads League AD of the Year

GOSHEN, Ind. – At the June meeting of conference administrators, Goshen College Athletic Director Tim Demant was selected by his peers as the Crossroads League Athletic Director of the Year.

Demant recently completed his fifth academic year at the helm of the Maple Leafs' athletic department. He earns his first AD of the Year honor, while also becoming the first athletic director to receive the honor under the Crossroads League moniker - formerly the Mid-Central College Conference.

The cover of the June 17, 2013 edition of Sports Illustrated Magazine features the Detroit Tigers' Miguel Cabrera and Prince Fielder. The Magazine's headline says that the "Bash Bros" are the 21^st-Century version of Mantle and Maris. One of the popular features in the Magazine is a long-standing tradition of Faces in the Crowd, and Spring Arbor University's Nathan Martin is one of those faces in this issue's crowd.

Nathan Martin, a senior track and field standout from Spring Arbor University has been selected as the 2012-2013 Crossroads League Achievement Award winner. The League Achievement Award is selected from any Crossroads League constituent that exemplifies excellence, courage, and special achievement during the year. This award is given at the discretion of the Crossroads League Commissioner.

The Crossroads League is pleased to announce the 2012-2013 Male and Female Student-Athlete of the Year award winners. The Crossroads League Student-Athlete of the Year award is given annually to the male and female student-athletes who have distinguished themselves through both academic and athletic excellence throughout the course of the year. Award winners are selected from approximately 2,800 student-athletes who compete in Crossroads League sponsored sports at all ten league institutions. The Crossroads League Student-Athlete of the Year award is voted upon and awarded by the conference's athletic directors at their annual meeting.

[Softball] Grace's Brooke Shell Selected NAIA All-American

The 2013 NAIA Softball All-American selections were recently released. Grace's Brooke Shell, a sophomore outfielder from Hartford City, Indiana was selected as a 2^nd Team NAIA All-American. Shell became only the 2^nd player in Grace's softball history to receive such an honor.

The 2013 NAIA Baseball All-Americans were selected this week. Spring Arbor's Mark Weist, a junior shortstop from Saline, Michigan was named NAIA Honorable Mention All-American. Weist led Spring Arbor to a 27-18 finish this past spring while batting .392. Weist recorded 51 hits on the season including 16 doubles, 3 triples and 8 home runs. He also added 31 runs batted in and finished the season with 10 stolen bases.

The 2013 NAIA Women's Golf Coaches' Postseason Top 25 Poll was released this week. The Bethel College Pilots finished 17^th in the country, highlighting a season that saw the Pilots win 9 of 10 Invitationals including the Crossroads League Championship.

Every four years, the HU skipper takes her team to Jamaica to serve alongside the people of Highgate. It has proven to be a career highlight for many of her players and this summer was no different as Culler gave nine of her current players the experience of a lifetime.

The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) has released the 2013 Daktronics NAIA Scholar-Athletes for Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field. The NAIA tabbed 204 male student-athletes and 313 female student-athletes as scholar-athletes. Each student-athlete must be nominated by their respective coach or sports information director, maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale, and have achieved junior academic status. The Crossroads League is proud to recognize the 51 student-athletes representing the league in 2013.

This week the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) announced the 2013 Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field All-American Teams. All-American honors were awarded to the top eight individual performances in each event along with all four runners in the top eight relay teams. The 62^nd Annual NAIA Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field National Championships were held May 23-25 in Marion, IN on the campus of Crossroads League member Indiana Wesleyan University.

MARION, Ind. -- For the 12th consecutive year the Indiana Wesleyan University athletic department has captured the Crossroads League All-Sports Trophy which honors the most comprehensive athletic department in the league.

"It's a great accomplishment to win the All-Sports Trophy," said Indiana Wesleyan Director of Athletics Mark DeMichael. "I think it keeps getting harder every year because the level of competition in the league keeps getting better every year. It is a nice athletic ending to a really exciting year."

[Men's Basketball] Kessler to assist USA Basketball at World University Games

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Grace College head coach Jim Kessler was announced as a court coach for the 2013 USA Basketball Men's World University Games training camp.

Kessler will assist USA Basketball's coaching staff during the team's training camp from June 24-July 1 for the 2013 Men's University Games.

The USA men will be coached by Davidson College's Bob McKillop and assisted by Michigan's John Beilein and South Carolina's Frank Martin. The 2013 World University Games are held in Kazan, Russia, from July 6-17.

"I'm highly honored to have the opportunity to contribute to USA Basketball. It's an honor for the NAIA to be included at this level. I think USA Basketball is recognizing there are a lot of good coaches at this level," Kessler said. "I'm thrilled at this opportunity to help pick and train players to represent us in Russia. If nothing else, I want to encourage these guys to represent us well. We'll go overseas with a target on our back as the United States, so we need to leave the all-star attitude behind, play hard and play together."

Hartford City, IN – The 2012-13 Crossroads League Baseball postseason awards have been released by the league offices, student-athletes are recognized for their selection to All-Crossroads League Teams or Golden Glove awards. These awards are voted upon by league head coaches and recognize the outstanding play of student-athletes over the past season of baseball competition.
