INDIANAPOLIS - For the first time in program history, the Marian men's tennis team has knocked off IU-Indy, as the Knights began their 2026 season with a 4-3 victory Saturday night. Marian's win is the first of the season, as they played their first regulation match of the season.
The Jaguars would strike first in doubles, but it was the Knights coming away with the first point of the night, as Marian won two of the three matches to land a 1-0 lead. Ben O'Brien and Marcos Ramos Cabrera were unsuccessful at No. 2 doubles, but at No. 1 James Ashworth and Mateo Guerin came away with a 6-4 victory. Marc Soriano and Iyan Cresens scored Marian's clinching victory, winning 6-2 against Jai Dutta and Puiphat Sukkho at No. 3 to give Marian a lead.
Marian took a 2-0 lead as the first singles match concluded, as Ashworth was victorious at No. 1 6-0, 6-2 against Owen Nguyen. The Jaguars would claw back with a win at No. 3 singles as Marcos Ramos Cabrera fell 6-4, 6-4, but Marian rocked back into the lead as Mateo Guerin won 6-2, 7-6 (4) at No. 2 singles.
