JACKSON, Mich. – The Crossroads League Athletes of the Week were announced on Monday, recognizing the league's top individual performances from March 31 through April 6. Sports Information Directors from the league institutions nominate student-athletes for the awards and vote on each week's winners.
Baseball Player of the Week
Brenden Phillips, Spring Arbor
Phillips sparked the SAU lineup in a four-game sweep of Bethel, hitting .500 in 12 at bats and driving in 10 runs. The freshman homered twice, roped two doubles and added a stolen base to go with four runs scored.
Baseball Pitcher of the Week
Tyler Papenbrock, Huntington
Papenbrock tossed a complete-game two-hit shutout for Huntington in an 11-0 win at Goshen. The senior hurler fanned 11 and allowed just three base runners in the seven innings of work.
Softball Player of the Week
Shea VanScoter, Goshen
VanScoter had at least one hit and one RBI in all four of Goshen's games, leading the Maple Leafs to a trio of wins. VanScoter hit .615 with two home runs and eight runs batted in for the Goshen lineup.
Softball Pitcher of the Week
Kinzie Mollenkopf, Huntington
Mollenkopf went 2-0 in the circle for Huntington, tossing a complete-game gem in HU's 2-1 upset of No. 15 Indiana Wesleyan and allowing just one earned run in 12 innings. The sophomore finished the week with 12 strikeouts, a 0.58 ERA and a 0.92 WHIP.
Women's Outdoor TF Track Athlete of the Week
Kylie Sauder, Grace
Sauder showed well for the Lancers at the Grand Valley State Early Meet, hitting the NAIA A-standard in the 1,500-meters with a time of 4:28.96. Sauder finished as the top NAIA performer in the race and trailed only a trio of Notre Dame competitors.
Women's Outdoor TF Field Athlete of the Week
Alecia Parker, Bethel
Parker took second place in the shot put at the Indiana Tech Open. The senior posted a distance of 13.06 meters.
Men's Outdoor TF Track Athlete of the Week
Eric Materna, Marian
Materna competed at the Ole Miss Invite, hitting A-standards in the 400-meters and 4x400-meter relay for Marian. The sophomore broke MU's record with a time of 47.26 in the 400, and posted the NAIA's best time of the year in the 4x400-relay.
Men's Outdoor TF Field Athlete of the Week
Joey Rauwerda, Saint Francis
Rauwerda turned in another strong performance in the pole vault for Saint Francis, winning the event at the Jenna Strong Invitational with a mark of 5.00 meters. Rauwerda currently ranks second in the NAIA with that performance.
Women's Tennis Player of the Week
France Antezana, Indiana Wesleyan
Antezana won each of her five matches for the Wildcats, splitting three singles wins at No. 1 and 2, while going 2-0 at No. 1 doubles for Indiana Wesleyan.
Men's Tennis Player of the Week
Luis Cordoba, Grace
Cordoba was unbeaten in No. 14 Grace's wins over Indiana Tech and RV Lawrence Tech. Cordoba went 2-0 at No. 4 singles and 1-0 at No. 3 doubles.
