HU’s Martin Capdevilla Appointed to ITA Student-Athlete Council
HUNTINGTON, Ind. – Huntington University graduate student Martin Capdevilla, a member of the Forester men's tennis team, has been selected to serve on the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Student-Athlete Council as announced by the national office earlier this week.
Capdevilla, a native of Mendoza, Argentina, is one of just ten collegiate tennis players nationwide chosen for this honor and the only NAIA student-athlete represented on the council.
The ITA Student-Athlete Council is a committee composed of collegiate tennis players assembled to provide insights into the sport with a special emphasis on the student-athlete experience. The council's mission is to:
- Present a student-athlete voice within the Intercollegiate Tennis Association
- Offer input on matters pertaining to the sport, particularly issues impacting student-athletes
- Work to enhance the student-athlete experience across all levels of college tennis
- Invest in the leaders of tomorrow by creating leadership and professional development opportunities
"Being named to the ITA Student-Athlete Council is a tremendous honor for Martin and for our program," said Huntington University head coach Ignacio Poncio. "His leadership on and off the court makes him an outstanding representative of Forester tennis. With this appointment, he'll also be able to bring a unique perspective of NAIA student-athletes to the national stage."
Capdevilla played a pivotal role in Huntington's historic 2024-25 season, helping lead the Foresters to the NAIA National Championships for the first time since 2011. HU finished the year with an overall record of 12-5.
The Huntington University Foresters compete in 18 intercollegiate sports for men and women. In the past decade, Huntington has produced 181 NAIA All-America honors and 631 All-America Scholar Athlete honors.
