Taylor Extends Perfect Start to 5-0 with Upset of No. 18 Campbellsville
CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – Taylor University's women's soccer team scored three second-half goals to upset No. 18 Campbellsville 4-1 on Saturday, extending its unbeaten start to 5-0 with a fifth consecutive victory.
The win marked TU's first road victory over a ranked opponent since defeating No. 11 Indiana Wesleyan 2-1 in the 2022 Crossroads League Tournament. The Trojans also avenged last season's 4-0 loss to the Tigers.
TU has won five straight games for the first time since 2023 and started 5-0 for the first time since 2022. The Trojans received votes in the latest NAIA Women's Soccer Coaches' Top 25 Poll.
Going into halftime level at 1-1, the Trojans seized control with goals from Eliza Luttrell in the 51st minute and Maegen Hill in the 57th minute. Morgan Fletemeyer added an insurance goal in the 87th minute to seal the victory.
Luttrell led all players with four shots on goal and three points, recording an assist on Hill's goal. The junior forward has a team-high nine points through five games.
TU outshot Campbellsville 15-3 in the second half and 18-11 overall after trailing 8-3 in shots during the first half.
Goalkeeper Brianna Rawlings made a season-high six saves, including five before halftime to preserve the Trojans' opportunity to grab the lead in the second period.
Freshman midfielder Lydia Johnson gave Taylor a 1-0 lead in the sixth minute. Johnson leads the team with four goals in her first five collegiate games and recorded three shots on goal in Saturday's contest.
Campbellsville (3-3-0) equalized in the 39th minute, scoring the first goal against Taylor this season and ending the Trojans' scoreless streak at nearly 400 minutes.
Taylor will attempt to extend its winning streak on the road Wednesday at 4 p.m. against Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College (0-3-1). The Trojans return home Friday to face Cornerstone at 7 p.m. inside the friendly confines of Turner Stadium.
