No. 1 Marian Stamps Quarterfinals Ticket Behind Tredway's Brace
Pensacola, Fla. - The Marian women's soccer team opened play at the final site of the 2025 NAIA Women's Soccer Championship, winning 2-0 in the Round of 16 over Crossroads League rival Taylor University. Allie Tredway notched both goals for the Knights in the win, who remain undefeated as the win lifts them to a 20-0-2 overall mark.
Marian dominated possession throughout play on Monday morning, opening the game with three shots in the first 10 minutes, including a hit on goal from Katie Koger. The offense continued to command the ball, with Allie Tredway and Kiley Jones finding shots on goal in the next 15 minutes of play.
The Knights pressed with each chance they had, seeking the first goal for either team in the season series, with Marian and Taylor playing to a draw back on October 11. With the attack taking chances and generating opportunities, in the 39th minute, Allie Tredway came through, as the Knights broke the draw with a goal. Katie Koger played a pass from midfield for the freshman, who dribbled into striking distance. Approaching the scoring box, Tredway ripped a blast from 25 yards out, looping her shot over the outstretched arm of Taylor keeper Brianna Rawlings, giving Marian a 1-0 lead.
The lead held going into half, with Marian taking full control of the match as they led in shots 10-2.
Seeking a second goal was critical for the Knights, who aimed to find an early insurance goal. The team would not have to wait long, as Tredway generated an opportunity in the third minute of play, setting a pass to a crashing Katie Koger. Koger's hit from in the box was blocked as she fired at the back of a Trojan defender, but the ricochet played directly back to the freshman Tredway, who smalled the ball with her left foot into the right corner of the goal, driving the Knights on top 2-0.
Tredway's goal gave Marian a commanding 2-0 lead, which would be more than enough as the Knights dominated possession in the waning 40 minutes to preserve the victory. In the late-game scramble, Taylor launched a shot, but as was the case with their previous two shots in the period, the chance for a goal was denied with Lily Ames making the save.
The freshman Tredway recorded her second brace of the season, logging goals eight and nine on the season to help Marian reach the NAIA Quarterfinals. Tredway would take a match-high five shots with four looks going on target, while Koger logged four shots in the win in addition to assisting on both goals. Marian Corro Celma and Erin Kelly each logged a shot on goal for Marian Monday morning.
In goal, Lily Ames earned the win, logging three saves as she recorded her 13th clean sheet of the campaign.
Marian will play either Oklahoma Wesleyan or MidAmerica Nazarene on Thursday in the NAIA Quarterfinals. The match begins at 11 AM EST.
