TU's White Announces Plans to Retire at Season’s End
UPLAND, Ind. – National champion head cross country coach, Quinn White, announced on Wednesday that he would be retiring from coaching at Taylor University following the conclusion of the upcoming men's and women's cross country season. White will remain in his role as a professor of education at TU.
White is entering his 16th year with the TU cross country and track programs, having served as the women's cross country head coach for that entire time. White has also served on staff with the men's and women's track and field teams since his start at Taylor and will enter his seventh season at the helm of the men's cross country program this fall.
During his time with the Trojans, White orchestrated the only two team NAIA National Championships in Taylor's history, leading the men's cross country team to a title in 2020 and the women to a championship in 2022.
"Quinn has set the standard for coaching cross country at a Christian university and has built this program into what it is today," said Taylor's director of intercollegiate athletics Kyle Gould. "His accomplishments as a coach are staggering and his impact on the lives of the men and women who competed under his guidance is even more impressive. Quinn's knowledge, passion and love for his athletes and their development as people and followers of Christ has had a profound impact on so many lives. We are thankful for the amazing career he has had and we look forward to supporting him and the team during this upcoming season."
"It has been an extraordinary privilege to share one of my greatest passions with such exceptional athletes, coaches and colleagues," reflected White. "The opportunity to play a role in the lives of so many has been humbling, and the impact they have had on me will remain an enduring gift.
I was fortunate to inherit two programs with a rich history and strong foundation established by remarkable coaches and athletes who came before me. I am deeply grateful to the many mentors, supporters, and friends who have guided, challenged and encouraged me to hold the highest expectations for myself and for the programs I have been entrusted to lead.
I am also sincerely thankful to the university and its administrators for creating and sustaining the opportunity for me to teach and coach in such a meaningful environment. Above all, I am indebted to my family for their unwavering love and support. As I transition into this next chapter, my heart is filled with gratitude, joy and love."
Since beginning his tenure as the women's cross country head coach in 2010, White has guided Taylor to an astounding head-to-head mark of 1,542 wins to just 219 losses and a stretch of 12-straight Crossroads League Championships since his first in 2013. The team has also finished inside the top-20 at NAIA Nationals in 12-straight seasons, securing top-six showings in each of the past eight seasons, a runner-up team finish in 2024 and the national title in 2022.
White's athletes have accounted for 23 NAIA All-American awards, 72 all-league honors and five individual Crossroads League Championships, while completely rewriting the record books in his 16 years at the helm.
In his six seasons with the men's cross country program, White saw the Trojans post a win-loss mark of 590-161 and finish inside the top-three of the CL in each year. On the national level, White's Trojans boast six-straight finishes inside the top-20, highlighted by a runner-up finish in 2019 and the national title in 2020.
The men's program has produced 12 NAIA All-American honors and 22 all-league performers during White's time.
In addition to his historic tenure with the cross country programs, White has served as an assistant coach for the Taylor men's and women's track and field teams. In his 16 years in that capacity, White's athletes have combined for 118 NAIA All-American honors, 266 all-league nods, 66 individual Crossroads League championships and a slew of new individual records in the distance events.
Fans and alumni wishing to share in a gathering to celebrate Coach White's impact on the Taylor cross country and track programs are invited to attend the Ray Bullock Invite at the Taylor Cross Country Farm on Friday, October 10. A post-race ceremony will take place at Bagley Pavilion to honor White. Start times for that day's races will be posted on TaylorTrojans.com at a later time.
White's final cross country campaigns will begin with high expectations, as the women's team is ranked No. 1 in the NAIA Preseason Poll and the men's squad sits at No. 3. The teams will open the 2026 season at the Indiana Wesleyan Twilight Invitational on Friday, September 5.
